Early life and education
Dipke went to school in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and later studied at S. B. College. He briefly enrolled in engineering, then switched to journalism and mass communication at Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth in Pune. He later completed a Master of Science in public relations at Boston University. When an RTI activist questioned how his US education was funded in August 2026, Dipke said he studied on a scholarship and an education loan and offered to share the documents.
The AAP years
From 2020 to 2023, Dipke volunteered with the Aam Aadmi Party's social-media team, where he made meme-based content aimed at young voters during the 2020 Delhi Assembly election. He also served as a communications adviser to the Delhi government's education department. He left the party's media team in 2023 and moved to the United States for postgraduate study.
How one post started the Cockroach Janta Party
On 15 May 2026, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant compared some unemployed young people and social-media activists to cockroaches during a Supreme Court hearing. He later said his remarks had been misconstrued. The next day, Dipke posted on X: "What if all cockroaches come together?"
The post became the Cockroach Janta Party — a satirical movement that described itself as "secular, socialist, democratic, and lazy". It published five demands, drew millions of Instagram followers within its first week, and had its X account withheld in India on 21 May. Dipke challenged the blocking in the Delhi High Court, which ordered the account restored on 7 July 2026. Read the full CJP timeline.
From the internet to Jantar Mantar
In June 2026, Dipke returned from Boston and led the CJP's first street protest at Jantar Mantar, demanding Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation over the NEET paper leak. The protest camp continued through June and July. On 18 July he began a hunger strike; on 20 July he led a march towards Parliament that police met with tear gas and baton charges. Pradhan resigned on 25 July. Reuters called the campaign one of the largest youth-led challenges the Modi government had faced since 2014.
During one protest in July, a woman threw ink at him while he was addressing supporters.
The October 2026 detention
On 10 October 2026, Delhi Police detained Dipke and co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka at Delhi airport before a planned protest against the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, for which police had refused permission. Here is what happened that day.
Allegations and court cases
In May 2026, a petition in the Allahabad High Court sought an investigation into alleged foreign funding of Dipke and the CJP; the court directed the petitioner to approach a court of competent jurisdiction. No finding of wrongdoing has been reported. Dipke has also said he and his family received threatening messages; Reuters said it could not independently verify those claims.
